First Steps in Irish

First Steps in Irish is a bright, fun-filled way to start learning Irish, with Oscar and Órla Octopus. A hundred common nouns are presented with cartoon illustrations and recordings of native speakers from your choice of the three major dialects. The words are used in simple sentences, and sections on colours, numbers, and spelling are included. The CD-ROM is aimed primarily at children in early years education, depending on their ability in the language. There is a 32-page accompanying workbook with a variety of educational and entertaining exercises. The workbook comes with unlimited photocopying rights for schools.
"The whole presentation is based on sound educational principles: one goes from the known to the unknown, adjectives are taught in pairs of opposite meaning and there is plenty of repetition. The new words are used in sentences of similar structure. "Sin é an t-uisce glan "Sin éan t-uisce salach", 'Sin i an chaora bhán'', "Sin i an chaora dhubh". One doesn't have to be a computer expert to use First Steps. Installation is user-friendly with simple step-by-step instructions in Irish or English. As in all Fios Feasa material a click on "Gaeilge/Béarla" switches from one language to the other. Altogether a most useful learning aid for beginners in Irish, First Steps is reasonably priced at €20."
